Mahela Jayawardene and Lahiru Thirimanne’s 100-run

Mahela Jayawardene and Lahiru Thirimanne’s 100-run stand has put Sri Lanka in a position to win the Asia Cup 2014 final against Pakistan at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. Jayawardene is on 43 and Thirimanne is on 70. In 28 overs, Sri Lanka are 157 for two.

The duo came together in the 11th over when Saeed Ajmal picked up the wickets of Kusal Perera and Kumar Sangakkara off consecutive deliveries. Pakistan have not been helped by the lapses in the field and it is now costing them as Sri Lanka are cruising along to victory.

Sri Lanka have recovered very well and are being led by Mahela Jayawardene and Lahiru Thirimanne. In 23 overs, Sri Lanka are 131 for two. Jayawardene is on 36 and Thrimanne is on 51.

Shahid Afridi could have had Thirimanne, but the edge wasn’t collected by wicketkeeper Umar Akmal. Later, when Mohammad Hafeez was bowling, Thirimanne swept him and it spun as Umar Gul got in position to stop it on the boundary. As a result it went for four.

Jayawardene then hit Afridi four a boundary as Sri Lanka kept building on their score. Thirimanne guided Mohammad Talha through third-man to get a four and then took a single to move to 50.
